WHO I AM
I was born and raised in Rome, where I pursued my medical studies. I continued my training in Milan, interspersing it with constant and meaningful experiences abroad, driven by curiosity, the desire to improve myself, and by taking advantage of unique opportunities. At the end of this long journey, I arrived in Paris and joined Prof. Mimoun’s team at Saint Louis Hospital.I arrived at this hospital in 2018 and have been working there ever since.
France, a country I have always loved and with which I have felt deeply connected, welcomed me with kindness, and I chose to make it my home.
This encounter with the beauty, liveliness, and openness of different great European cities was key in the development of my personal and professional identity.
I passed the entrance exam for Medical School already fully set on becoming a plastic surgeon. At the end of my studies, I graduated with top grades. I began my academic training in plastic surgery by attending the department of Professor Fabio Santanelli, a well-known international expert in breast reconstruction and microsurgery, with whom I was lucky enough to defend my thesis.
For some years, I worked alongside Dr. Flavio Saccomanno, a renowned Italian-Brazilian surgeon, who taught me many of the foundational skills in cosmetic surgery. I passed the challenging exam for plastic surgery with one of the best scores nationwide. During these crucial years, I participated in extensive training programs both in Italy and abroad: first in Madrid, then at Sahlgrenska Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden, as part of a master’s degree in breast reconstruction. I subsequently worked in various hospitals in Milan. I feel fortunate for the opportunities I had and for the professionals I met, both of which enabled me to receive diverse and extensive training in top-level European centers.
At the end of this long journey, I arrived in France, eager to discover its reputed medical schools and ancient surgical tradition, eventually joining the renowned Saint Louis Hospital and its equally famous former director, Prof. Maurice Mimoun. In this plastic surgery department, the oldest and largest in France, I was—and still am—impressed by the great variety of surgeries, both in quantity and quality, by the high standards of care offered to patients, and by the efficient organization of such a large team. I embraced the Saint Louis approach to surgery, valued the care with which they handled patients, and chose to specialize further in cosmetic surgery. Currently, while continuing to practice at the hospital, I also work at my private office located in the 16th arrondissement, focusing primarily on cosmetic surgery of the face, breast, and body contouring.
This extraordinary specialty, whose boundaries and purposes are often unclear, has many unique features: it is both a science and an art, technique and creativity, craft and psychology. This duality has always appealed to me, and I felt it reflected my own desire to perfect both the aesthetic and technical components of my practice.
I also came to realize that plastic surgery is much more varied than is often believed, involving very different body areas, techniques, and goals. It pertains the treatment of burns, malformations, post-traumatic and post-oncological reconstruction, skin cancers, gender reassignment surgery, aesthetic surgery, as well as research on biomaterials and cellular engineering, and even microsurgery. A plastic surgeon must master the skills common to all types of surgery: scientific method, dedication, precision, and staying up to date with the latest discoveries. On top of all this, he must maintain a psychological connection with the patient in a respectful, understanding, and gentle manner. It also requires creativity, invention, and an artistic eye—skills that cannot be learned at university but are refined through practice and the fine-tuning of one’s individual talent. These are essential tools for practicing surgery to the highest standard. This variety in skills, purpose, and approach makes this profession very rewarding for me.
